The Shipley Festival in 2012 wishes to bring the community around Shipley together through music in addition to celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London  Olympics.  Also for the first time there are two concerts in London which bring together the ‘John Ireland in Chelsea’ Festival and his resting place at Shipley Arts Festival.  We are very grateful to all our supporters, Knight Frank International and Rupert Toovey as sponsors and our partners Tata TCS.

Windlesham House School. String Academy playing Concert and Music to ‘Stop the Traffik‘ on Sunday 1st.: Justin Blake and Bex Keer (UK director ‘Stop the Traffik’) present an extension of the Festival’s responsibility to community and citizenship. Sedgwick Park RH13 6QQ We invite you to ‘A Concert from the time of Sedgwick Park to mark the fifty years since John Ireland was laid to rest at St Mary’s Church in Shipley.   An international level trio of Maria Marchant, Jonathan Few and Andrew Bernardi with two members who are former John Ireland Competition prize winners.  Music to include:  John Ireland ‘Fantasy Trio,’ the ‘cello Sonata,’ 'Ballade of London Nights' and short pieces such as ‘Bagatelle’ and ‘Cavatina.’ We will also be hearing the ‘Four Season’s’ by Astor Piazzolla for piano trio.  Directions at www.sedgwickpark.co.uk                             (By invitation only - SOLD OUT)

Storrington Parish Church RH20 4LAA talk and concert to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth.  The talk on “In Service of the Crown – a Life in Diplomacy” will be by Donald Lamont who was formerly Governor of the Falklands, Ambassador to Venezuela and CEO of Wiston House. Wine and drinks will be available.  The concert will include J.S.Bach’s “Concert Movement for Three Trumpets and a Violin” BMV 1045,  Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, J.S.Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no.2, mirrored by our commission The ‘Margraves Dream’ by Malcolm Singer.  Soloists include Fraser Tannock (trumpet) Oliver and Tony Hancock (organ) Andrew Bernardi (violin) together with Bruce Martin (flute). Knepp Castle RH13 8LJ Shipley Parish are celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday 5th June with a Family Event to be held in the grounds of Knepp Castle. An organising committee is putting together an itinerary starting with a

raft race on the lake at 4pm, and ending with a bonfire and fireworks.

Parishioners will be encouraged to bring picnics and a bar and caterers

will be on site as well as activities for all ages.  Anyone interested

St Andrew’s Church Nuthurst  The Choir of our Most Holy Redeemer and St. Thomas More Chelsea and the Bernardi Chamber Orchestra perform Mozart’s “Solemn Vespers” and John Ireland’s music conducted by John Ireland’s rector’s great grandson David Bevan.  John Ireland’s service in C major was dedicate to David’s Bevan’s great grandfather.  The 2012 Festival will close with audience and all performers singing and playing John Ireland’s hymn ‘My Song is Love Unknown’

The Shipley Arts Festival, celebrating its eleventh year, becomes more and more successful as it enhances the Gifted and Talented String Academy with the Yehudi Menuhin School, runs a composing competition with applicants from numerous countries and has the ability to attract excellent professional musicians to its country concerts.  There are still several of the concerts in Shipley parish: at St. Mary’s and St. Cuthman’s as usual and two new places this year, Anthony and Louise Burrell’s Lackenhurst and the Quaker meeting house, Blue Idol.

The 2010 Festival:

Our 2009 Shipley commission "To Notice Such Things" by Jon Lord in memory of Sir John Mortimer achieved Classic FM CD of the month in March and is due for release on March 29th. The 10th Anniversary Festival will open with this very fine work. Our local community will again  celebrate the arts with performances of international standard and support the creation of a series of new pieces to reflect Bach's Brandenburg Concertos with the aim to perform  them again during the 2012 Olympics. Whilst maintaining the concert series, we have new  ambitions to expand our efforts to include an all year round String Academy from September 2010. We are very grateful to all our partners and supporters: Horsham District and West Sussex County Councils; Michael Gattrell and his Capitol Box Office team; Trinity College of Music; our composer for this year, Malcolm Singer; the Yehudi Menuhin School; David Heyes, manager of the composers" competition; the John Ireland Trust; above all, our musicians, the Festival Management and  the Community. Together  these  have formed a team which takes forward this rural Festival and makes a lasting contribution to the UK's musical landscape.

April 25th 6.30 p.m. St Mary's Horsham Parish Church: A very special idylic evening of classical string music with flute and led by Jon Lord (former Deep Purple keyboard player) and friends from the Bernardi Music Group and the Festival's Gifted and Talented String Academy to include last year's Shipley Commission "To Notice Such Things" (which is classic FM CD of the week in final week of March 2010) and Vaughan Williams' "Greensleaves".
